# Mini Note Assignment > [!note] Learning Objectives > - practice frequent, low-stakes writing-to-learn > - improve understanding of how soils form within a landscape > - develop metacognition (thinking about your own thinking) in the area of soil formation # Task & Requirements To achieve the learning objectives for this assignment, you are tasked with developing 20 mini notes across the quarter. The mini notes are structured, but open-ended. They are intended to facilitate your learning and studying of the course content. Therefore, the mini notes can be about any topic or idea relevant to the course material. The atomic ideas included in a mini note could come from something you read, and idea you had during lecture, an observation made during a field trip, or any other ideas relevant to the course material. > [!note] Make notes on the things that interest you! > Most importantly, your mini notes should be on ideas that interest you. You do not have to make a mini note based on every idea or concept we cover in class. Rather, take notes on the things that you are most curious and excited about. As you develop your mini notes, begin linking them together. Not all of the notes need to relate to one another, but your goal is to look for places where they do connect. Each mini note should be connected to at least one other mini note in your collection. The first mini note won't have any connections, but you can add those in later. Consider writing the first two mini notes on two separate, but related, ideas, and link them together accordingly. >**To meet the expectations of the assignment, your mini notes must:** >- be relevant to course content >- focus on ideas and concepts you are most interested in >- link to at least one other mini note in your collection (except mini note 1) # Rubric & Feedback I will assess your mini notes using the completeness rubric below and provide feedback soon after you submit the mini note on canvas. > Mini notes 1-10 are due week 5 (02/08) > Mini notes 11-20 are due week 10 (03/15) Technically, you do not have to turn in any mini notes until the week 5 deadline. However, if you wait to submit all of them in week 5, I cannot guarantee I will be able to give you feedback prior to the writing assignment 1 deadline. Therefore, I highly recommend submitting some of the mini notes prior to week 5 so that you can recieve feedback on your ideas. ![[completeness rubric.png|500]] # Formatting & submission Please use the [[mini note template - website|mini note template]] for each mini note. Export the note as a pdf and submit it on canvas. > [!note] How to export your notes > Export your notes by clicking the three stacked dots on the top right hand corner of Obsidian. A menu will appear. Select "export to pdf" and adjust the settings as needed. There are two mini note assignments on canvas (one for week 5 deadline, one for week 10 deadline). Upload the mini notes to the appropriate assignment. You can upload additional notes as you create them. I will be able to see all of the notes you upload so this helps keep everything in one place.
